Camel Walk was the first Ikettes single on the Modern record label in 1964. The song was written by Ike Turner as a dance song, featuring Ike’s stinging Wes-Montgomery-influenced anarchic guitar break. It was credited to the Iketts. This odd spelling also turned up later on the Innis single So Fine. The single did not pay chart-wise, but artistically it’s a stormer. On the latter Ikettes album Soul The Hits for Modern, an alternative, faster, take 4 of the song was used. A different version was also released in 1974 on the album (G)old & New.
