Live Aid was a charity concert, organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. The event was held simultaneously at the Wembley Stadium in London (UK) and the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia (USA) on July 13, 1985 and was broadcasted internationally via satellite television. Tina Turner was just on the road with her Private Dancer Tour and didn’t appeared with an own set, but accompanied Mick Jagger on two songs. During their duet on „It's Only Rock’n Roll,“ Mick ripped away Tina's skirt, leaving her to finish the song in a leotard. At the end of the U.S. concert, Tina also attended the entire cast on the song We Are The World. In 2004, the complete performances of both concerts were released on home video.
Please remember this day all of your lives. lt’s important.
Remember the day you wanted to help.
Remember the bands and crews who did it. The professionals who
made it an extraordinary technological feat.
Remember the dying who were allowed to live.
Remember the day you die, there is someone alive in Africa ‘cos
one day you watched a pop concert.
Remember your tears and your joy.
Remember the love.
Remember on that day for once in our bloody lives WE WON.
Remember the dying goes on and remember so that as time passes
you can tell others "it’s possible, I know".
What a day, what a lovely day.
