Live - The Ike & Tina Turner Show (Vol. 1) was shortly released after the album Revue Live from Kent Records. Warner Bros. Records acquired the rights to this similar recording by the label-hopping duo and quickly countered with this album, which reached the top ten of the R&B charts in February 1965, making it the very first album for Ike & Tina on the American charts. The recording is very raw with vocal performances from Tina, the Ikettes and the Kings of Rhythm. It was recorded live at The Skyliner Ballroom (Fort Worth, Texas) and Lovall's Ballroom (Dallas, Texas). The UK reissue from 1966 contains the extra track Tell Her I’m Not Home, which was a single the same year. In 1965, Warner put out the sequel Volume 2 on it’s Loma subsidiary.

Hello there, Music Lovers. I’m Curtis (Gene) Pierce, a disc jockey. Of course, I’ll tell you more about myself later, OK? But right now, it’s my great pleasure to tell you about this album (which I think is the very best) by Ike and Tina Turner. It's all recorded „live" in Fort Worth and Dallas, Texas. This album's the first by the Duo-o for Warner Bros. It's a smash, and I mean — it’s loaded! Included in this album is that big hit single, Finger Poppin' which is first on Side One. Then come eleven others, and words alone can’t completely tell you the extent of this L.P. Namely, listen to Let the Good Times Roll and Twist and Shout, to name just a few, on Side Two. That’s really where Tina sings with especially a whole lot of soul. And I mean S-0-U-L, like I Can't Stop Loving You, not to mention the others. Wow! Brother, this chick has it.
All over the country, "The Ike and Tina Turner Show" is a favorite of millions, having appeared on radio and many television network shows, such as "American Bandstandl," "The Lloyd Thaxton Show" and just recently on the new „Shindig" Show. These, plus their many appearances at most of the nation’s leading theatres, have added tremendously to the popularity of "The Ike and Tina Turner Show." Again, I'd like to mention that in this album you'll find some of the best hits and originals they’ve done. I know the aIbum’ll add tremendously to your collection. And, being a friend as well as a fan of Ike and Tina, I can truly say, "They are the greatest!"
This husband-wife team has style, Ike and Tina have a definite way of doing: a number that makes you know it’s right. You see, their style is really a method, a method of telling a story in precise, well-planned, well-executed arrangements that display considerable technical ability. Those of you who have seen them know what I’m talking about. "The Human Bombshell," as Tina is often called, is really indescribable. But I'll say this much for sure: when she comes out on the stage to sing a number and perform, she upsets the whole place. This album’ll give you the message. Yes Sir, that’s a fact!
Whenever the Ike and Tina Turner Show is in your town or city, do like me. Make the scene, I had the pleasure of booking the dance and show which was recorded "live" for this album. And talk about a ball..! You can hear and understand from the first musical note of this terrific L.P.
Recording is nothing new to Ike and Tina Turner. They're vets in the business. By that I mean that they are young veterans of Show Business. Ike has the very best of cars for good music, he produces as well as writes and arranges all or most of the songs they perform. He's dynamic on the guitar and piano. To sum it all up, I'll say he's the Jack of All Trades. We spent many tiring hours after the "live" performances, listening to the playback of the tape and making minor changes to improve the quality of this terrific album. Curious, I asked Ike, "What do you think of the show?"
He replied, "I’ve never been more satisfied." And so was R. A. "Bumps" Blackwell, who also played an important part in producing this album.
All in all, I can say Ike and Tina Turner is currently one of the hottest attractions in the country. They should be, along with the red hot revue stars in their company: Bobby John, Stacy Johnson, Vanetta Fields, Jimmy Thomas, Vernon Guy, Robbie Montgomery, The Ikettes, and The Kings of Rhythm band.
So here it is: all the excitement you’ve been waiting for. Twelve big hits, and I know they'll hit the spot with you. You’re all set now. Pull the L.P. out, put it on your record machine, and I’m sure you’ll agree: it’s an album that best describes the current era of America's taste in music. "The Ike and Tina Turner Show“...it’s out of sight.
