The Hunter is a blues album with three songs released as singles, while the song Bold Soul Sister was the b-side on two of them. Ike & Tina performed some songs live in their concerts, released on different LP's like Live In Paris from 1971. The album was reissued several times, among others in 2006 on the double CD The Hunter / Outta Season. The album was reviewed in Billboard magazine in it’s issue from October 18, 1969 and was nominated for a Grammy Award.

is a blues song, originally recorded by Albert King in 1967 but his version didn’t charted, in contrast to Ike & Tina’s version, which was a minor R&B hit. The version on the single is much shorter than on the album, which is over six minutes.

is a cover song, originally released from Barbara George in 1961. It was the second single, but missed the Hot 100 Billboard chart - in contrast to Bold Soul Sister from the b-side, which was promoted from the duo at the Ed Sullivan Show in 1970. Ike & Tina performed the title track live in their concerts, available on the album Live! The Ike & Tina Turner Show from 1965. The single was reviewed in Billboard magazine in it’s issue from October 4, 1969. Reworked and different versions were released on the album Sweet Rhode Island Red from 1974 and Golden Empire from 1985.
