IKE & TINA: Single

Ooh Poo Pah Doo (1971)

Ike & Tina Turner - Ooh Poo Pah Doo - Single

Ooh Poo Pah Doo is a cover from Jessie Hill, originally released in 1960. Ike & Tina performed the song since the mid sixties in their concerts and released a live version under the slightly different title Ooh Poop A Doo in 1964. They recorded also a studio version in 1971 for their album Workin’ Together, this time with the proper title. The version on this single is a little bit shorter than on the album, because it has a shorter intro. Also the b-side track I Wanna Jump is an edited version, which was already a single in 1969. Live versions of the title track are available on the album What You Hear Is What You Get from 1971 and Live In '71 from 2004.

CashBox - May 08, 1971

One of the regulars in LP’s by blues and some top forty acts, „Ooh Poo Pah Doo“ is turned into a powerful sales single by the „Proud Mary“ duo. Riding a new peak in their career, Ike & Tina should have no problems seeing this one break R&B and Top 40.
