Ooh Poo Pah Doo was released twice as a single. First in 1964 with the non album track „Merry Christmas Baby“ on the b-side and once again in 1971 with a slightly longer version, taken from the album Workin Together. The 1971 release contains an edited version of I Wanna Jump on the b-side, which was as well a single in 1969. Tina promoted the song without Ike but together with Neil Sedaka at the tv show Shindig in 1964 and Ike & Tina performed it live in their concerts. Live versions are available on the album What You Hear Is What You Get from 1971 and Live In '71 from 2004.

Released in December 1964 from Warner Records and in April 1971 from United Artists Records in America and June 1971 in Europe on 7“ vinyl, Ooh Poo Pah Doo reached #31 (R&B) and #60 (Pop) in America.

CashBox Magazine - December 12, 1964: (Warner Bros. 5493) MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY (2:00) The vet pop-r&b duo have had hits in the past and they can score again with this top-notch Yuletide offering. Tune is a medium-paced, shufflin’ chorus-backed blues tear-jerker with a plaintive seasonal theme. Watch it closely. (B+) OOH POOP A DOO (3:17) Funky reworking of the old Jessie Hill triumph.

Billboard Magazine - May 08, 1971: (UA 50782) The dynamic duo add a new touch to the old favorite—new lyric and performance, loaded with Hot 100 and soul chart potency. Wild vocal workout. Flip: (No Information Available).

CashBox Magazine - May 08, 1971: (UA 50782) One of the regulars in LP’s by blues and some top forty acts, “Ooh Poo Pah Doo" is turned into a powerful sales single by the "Proud Mary" duo. Riding a new peak in their career, Ike & Tina should have no problems seeing this one break R&B and Top 40. Flip: no flip info.
