The Edge features the very last Ike & Tina recordings with lead vocals from Tina Turner on the a-side and Ike Turner compositions without Tina on the b-side. The instrumental part was played by Home Grown Funk, a popular Memphis group in the '70s. The song Party Vibes was released as a promo in 1980, while Shame, Shame, Shame was a single in Europe, featuring an extended and remixed version. Tina promoted it on the Willem Ruis Lotto Show in The Netherlands, where it reached the charts. After Tina’s comback in 1984, all five songs with Tina have been re-released on a Mini album.
Some of the songs with lead vocals from Tina can be found on an early demo record from 1976, maybe for a planned album which never materialised because of the split of the duo. Another demo from 1980 features a very different tracklist, including only songs with lead vocals from Ike Turner - some of them still unavailable anywhere else. Maybe 'The Edge' was initially intended as an Ike Turner solo album.
