TINA: Book (Biography / Picture)

The Picture Life (1987)

The Picture Life of Tina Turner - Book

The Picture Life of Tina Turner is a well-written, easy-to-read biography of a popular rock performer. Busnar presents Turner's life in the context of the black experience during the 1940s through the 1960s, which gives young readers an interesting historical perspective. The brief biography is thorough and honest, including mention of Turner's son born to a man whom she never married and describing her experience as an abused wife. On the whole, however, the book is positive and upbeat, depicting a strong black woman who had to struggle to attain success. Both color and black-and-white photographs are abundant, adding to the book's appeal. A discography, bibliography, and index are included.
